What is Hard Ground

When you hear scriptures talking about sowing seeds into hard ground, you immediately think of the unsaved, people who will not accept the word of God for their salvation. Well, it does not just mean the unsaved. Hard ground also refers to Christians who will not accept the word about healing in their bodies, or the LORD providing them with more than enough and abundance overflowing into their finances, etc. Hard ground, is anytime someone lets the world tell them what is the truth instead of the word of GOD.

Mark 4 v 35....On the same day, when evening had come, He said to them, "Let us cross over to the other side."....

Mark 4 v 37-40.....And a great windstorm arose, and the waves beat into the boat, so that it was already filling. But He was in the stern, asleep on a pillow. And they awoke Him and said to Him, "Teacher, do you not care that we are perishing?" Then He arose and rebuked the wind, and said to the sea, "Peace be still!" And the wind ceased and there was a great calm. But He said to them, "Why are you so fearful? How is it that you have no faith?".....

Jesus had just finished teaching them the parable of sowing seeds. He had just taught them to have faith in the word (the seed He was planting).
You see Jesus had told them, "Let us cross over to the other side." He didn't say let's try to make it to the other side. He had already told them that they were going to the other side. Yet as soon as circumstances arose against them,, the word (what Jesus had told them) was choked out by the weeds, (the circumstances) and their faith was lost.

Hard ground comes from packing the dirt down over and over again until it is as hard as concrete, and there is no way that a seed sown into this ground can break forth and produce, because the ground is so hard around it, that it keeps it packed down. There is no one tilling the ground up around the seed to give it a chance to break through. It is the same with the word of GOD. If your circumstances keep telling you that you are barely getting by, that you are living pay check to pay check, therefore you hold on to every dime you make instead of investing in the kingdom of GOD, so you are not tilling the ground around the seed, (or worse you never put the seed in the ground to start with) then your seed will not spring forth and produce any fruit. You can not get an ear of corn without a kernel being planted. And you can not get a crop of corn from planting just one kernel. And if you want the best crop, then your ground has to be tended properly. The ones with the best, most productive gardens are those that take time to till their ground, plant and water their seeds, and keep the weeds pulled so that they do not choke out their crop. It is the same with us. The seed (the word of GOD) gets planted, then it is up to us to water and nurture that seed with good things.

We are the ones to take care of our ground (our hearts) because the world will be trampling all over our dirt, packing it down if we let them. We have to keep our soil (our hearts) ready for the seed, so that when planted, it can produce. We have to keep the weeds (things of the world) pulled out so as not to choke our seeds.

Mark 4 v 3-8....Listen! Behold, a sower went out to sow. And it happened, as he sowed that some seed fell by the wayside, and the birds of the air came and devoured it. Some fell on stony gournd, where it do not have much earth; and immediately it sprang up because it had no depth of earth. But when the sun was up it was scorched, and because it had no root it withered away. And some seed fell among thorns; and the thorns grew up and choked it, and it yielded no crop. But other seed fell on good ground and yielded a crop that sprang up, increased and produced some thirtyfold, some sixty,, and some a hundred."....

Mark 4 v 13-20.....And He said to them, " Do you not understand this parable? How then will you understand all the parables? The sower sows the word. And these are the ones by the wayside where the word is sown. When they hear, Satan comes immediately and takes away the word that was sown in their hearts. These likewise are the ones sown on stony ground who, when they hear the word, immediately receive it with gladness; and they have no root in themselves and so endure only for a time. Afterward, when tribulation or persecution arises for the word's sake, immediately they stumble. Now these are the ones sown among the thorns; they are the ones who hear the word, and the cares of this world, the deceitfulness of riches, and the desires for other things entering in choke the word, and it becomes unfruitful. But these are the ones sown on good ground, those who hear the word, accept it, and bear fruit: some thirtyfold, some sixty, and some a hundred.".......

Is your ground (heart) ready for the seed (the word of GOD) to be planted? What kind of crop will you have? Will you have good health because the word says you will, will you have an abundance overflowing into your bosom, because the word says you will, will you have peace, power, and a sound mind, because the word says you will. Will you be able to stand against your enemy and the devourer when it comes and tries to steal your fruit? The word says you can.

Open the word today and till your ground, water and nourish your seed. Protect your seed with the covering of a good bible teaching church. Don't leave it out in the frost to get frost bitten and die. Get into church, get under the covering of a good Pastor. Watch now as your seed grows and produces much fruit.

Stop listening to the world and the world's circumstances and listen to the word of GOD. AMEN!
