Don't Let Your Branch Wither

One of my devotionals today was telling how when you cut a branch off from the vine it withers and dies. He said no matter how close you lay that branch to that vine, it still can not get the nutrients it needs to survive, the sap is no longer flowing through the vine to that branch, so it withers and dies.
What a great way to explain the verse in John about abiding in the vine. He also said that when you just go to church on Sunday and then you go the rest of the week without spending time in the Word, and in prayer to the Father, then you are like a branch that has been cut off from the vine. Immediately you start to wither. You see we can not just go once a week to get fed the Word, we need to be fed every day. A branch can not live without the food from the vine. We can not live the life God wants us to live without the food from His word daily. Oh yes, you may get by, just like a plant that you forget to water and it starts drooping and looks like it is about to die, then you notice it again and water it thoroughly and it perks back up for a while, but if you forget to water it again, it will start to droop again. If you let this go on too long, then that plant will eventually wither and die, because each time you do this, it is called leaching. When you soak a plant and let the water run through, and then you let it dry out again and do the same thing over again, you are washing out all the nutrients in the soil. Eventually it will die if you do not put those nutrients back. So can you see now, how important it is for you to stay in the Word on a daily basis, and in prayer to the Father?

John 15 v 5-8..."I am the vine, you are the branches. He who abides in Me, and I in him, bears much fruit; for without Me you can do nothing. If anyone does not abide in Me, he is cast out as a branch and is withered; and they gather them and throw them into the fire, and they are burned. If you abide in Me, and My words abide in you, you will ask what you desire, and it shall be done for you. By this My Father is glorified, that you bear much fruit; so you will be My disciples.....

You see, Jesus makes it very clear here what will happen if you do not abide in Him and in His Word. And He also tells you when you do, that you all but have to ask whatever you desire and it will be done unto you. I believe people who walk around depressed, and miserable and complaining all the time just need a little watering from the Word of God to pick their droopy spirits up. We show our true spirit on the outside of us, by our expressions on our faces, our body language and etc. So make sure you water yourself daily with the word of God, and don't let yourself get droopy.
