The Ten Commandments

God gave us these laws to live by. He said if you will observe these things which I have given you, it will go well with you. He said to keep them in your heart, teach them diligently to your children, talk of them when you sit in your house, when you walk by the way, when you lie down, and when you rise up. He said to bind them as a sign on your hand, and they shall be as frontlets between yur eyes. He said to write them on the doorposts of your house, and on your gates. He goes to great lengths to tell you to keep them in front of you at all times.

Deut. 6 v 6-8...".And these words which I command you today shall be in your heart. You shall teach them diligently to your children, and sahll talk of them when you sit in your house, when you walk by the way, when you lie down, and when you rise up. You shall bind them as a sign on your hand, and they shall be as frontlets between your eyes. You shall write them on the doorposts of your house and on your gates."........

Now, I have to ask, do you think He wanted them taken out of the schools, workplaces, courthouses? I am trying to understand what is so bad in the 10 commandments that we would have to take them out of the school, so that our children will not be taught such things???? Or why we would want to remove them from our workplaces, courthouses etc.????? There must really be something awful and immoral in those comandments that we would fight so hard to remove them.!!!!!! Well, lets take a look and just revisit the commandments GOD, Himself gave us to live by. This would be the GOD who created us.

Deut. 5 v 6-21......"I am the LORD your GOD who brought you out of the land of Egypt, out of the house of bondage. You shall have no other gods before Me. You shall not make for yourself a carved image, any likeness of anything that is in heaven above, or that is in the earth beneath, or that is in the water under the earth; you shall not bow down to them, nor serve them. For I, the LORD your God, am a jealous God, visiting the iniquity of the fathers upon the children to the third and fourth generations of those who hate Me, but showing mercy to thousands, to those who love Me and keep my commandments. You shall not take the name of the LORD your GOD in vain, for the LORD will not hold him guiltless who takes His name in vain. Observe the Sabbath day, to keep it holy, as the LORD your GOD commanded you. Six days you shall labor and do all your work, but the seventh day is the Sabbath of the LORD your GOD. In it you shall do no work; you, nor your son, nor your daughter, nor your male servant, nor your female servant, nor your ox, nor your donkey, nor any of your cattle, nor your stranger who is within your gates, that your male servant and your female servant may rest as well as you. And remember that you were a slave in the land of Egypt, and the LORD your God, brought you out from there by a mighty hand and by an outstretched arm; therefore the LORD your GOD commanded you to keep the Sabbath day. Honor your father and your mother, as the LORD your GOD has commanded you, that your days may be long, and that it may be well with you in the land which the LORD your GOD is giving you. You shall not murder. You shall not commit adultery. You shall not steal. You shall not bear false witness against your neighbor. You shall not covet your neighbor's wife; and you shall not desire your neighbor's house, his field, his male servant, his female servant, his ox, his donkey, or anything that is your neighbor's......

Then Jesus told us the greatest of these is to love your GOD with all your heart, your mind and your strength, and to love your neighbor as yourself. These are the two greatest commandments. You see if you follow these two the rest will fall into place.

Did you notice how much time was spent on telling you to observe the Sabbath and to keep it holy? Do you think God was doing all that talking just to hear Himself speak? Do you think that He would have wasted time on telling you something that was not important? This is a day to spend with your family, worshiping the LORD, and resting in His presence. Not going out to eat, (therefore causing someone else to have to work), nor going shopping, or to the movies. All these things cause someone else to have to work. There was a time when there was no where open on Sundays. How far will we move away from the commandments of GOD? Oh let me see, now we are saying it is ok to murder! That's right, when we say abortion is ok, we are saying it is ok to murder. Hmmmm, I wonder if GOD would say that is ok???? What about trying to compete with the neighbors, everything they have we have to have bigger or better??

In other words, we have strayed so far away from the commandments God has given us, that we can't seem to discern what is right or wrong anymore. What is acceptable or not. We go to great lengths to make the word of GOD fit our lifestyles today, and believe that this is right. I do not believe that GOD had in mind, (and He does know all things still today, He is not stuck in some history book, that He is no more, He is still GOD today) that we could change His words to fit us today.

I believe He still means for us to love Him with all our heart, and to worship Him only, to love our neighbors, to not use His name in vain, to not steal, murder, covet, to keep His Sabbath day holy, to honor our mothers and fathers, to not commit adultery, and to have no other gods before Him.

Maybe it is just me, but did you see anything in those commandments that was so awful to teach to your children? Was there anything so awful there, that we would not want to publicly display them for all to see? Is there a better way for people to live, than to live by GOD's commandments? I just don't see how we think we make this world better by removing God's commands on how we are to live. We as Christians are just as guilty of not keeping His statutes. What can we do to change this? What can we do to make sure we keep ALL of His commandments? Not just the ones we pick and choose to keep.
